HATS OFF TO ALL WHO BRAVED CEO SLEEPOUT HARROGATE
A TERRIFIC NIGHT – albeit mighty chilly – was had at the Harrogate Rugby Union Football Club on 12th March 2020.
Business leaders from across Harrogate and North Yorkshire, including Rudding Park‘s Matthew Mackaness, Tony Page, of Solutions Page, Paul Smith of Morses Club, Andrew Oldfield of Open Plan Living and David Doherty, MD of the Harrogate RUFC joined forces to make it a night to remember – for all the right reasons.
Business owners, bosses, MDs and execs were invited to spend the night outdoors, in a bid to understand and tackle local homelessness. Each participant was charged with raising £1000 for the cause.
The event, which had to be postponed from its original date in November saw some phenomenal fundraising, with Martin Corbett of Derwent Facilities and MYSHON raising over £7,000 and Erika Wilson of Wilson Power Solutions raising over £4,000.
For some, it was an eye opening experience. Although it doesn’t come close to what a rough sleeper must experience, it allowed our business leaders to gain some understanding, unlock empathy and consider what they can do in business to help reduce inequalities in our society.
Thank you to all who came out to brave the biting wind and cold. We all did three amazing things: we raised big funds (at the time of writing, £23,500 has been raised), we raised awareness of some serious issues, and we gave up a night of our own time to help others – and that’s a great thing!
Special thanks to David “Doc” Doherty and the team at the Harrogate RUFC for providing the fantastic venue and facilities, and to Charles Hewines and the team at the Harrogate Rapid Relief Team who provided us all with a much needed hot breakfast.
