A massive boost for young people facing adversity in Milton Keynes
CEO Sleepout Milton Keynes raised £78,500 and smashed our expectations right out of the stadium!
When I was put in touch with the one-woman powerhouse that is Jo Carter of Concept Personnel, I had no idea that this generous business community would go on to raise such a phenomenal amount in their inaugural CEO Sleepout event at Stadium MK.
Jo had moved to Milton Keynes from Newcastle Upon Tyne, and was looking for a different way to get to know the business community in MK. Jo offered to help spread the word, and with her help, we secured Stadium MK, agreed a partnership with YMCA MK and the MK Dons Sports and Education Trust (MK Dons SET) and we were off!
News spread fast, and before long, 80 of the towns big-hearted business leaders were signed up and fundraising hard to hit their £1000 targets. And on that cold night in November, we raised an unbelievable £78,500!
We set our sights high because of amazing work of the two incredible charity partners:
MK Dons SET: Focus on inclusion and provide pathways to education and employment for people across a range of ages and circumstances in Milton Keynes. In particular they work with young people from areas of high deprivation. Their holiday programmes often provide much needed nourishment for young people growing up in poverty.
MK Dons SET aims to:
- to assist in advancing education
- to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the conditions of life for those for whom the facilities are provided
- to promote or assist in promoting community participation in healthy recreation
- to relieve sickness and disability and to preserve and protect health
- and to promote any other purpose which is charitable according to English law
The MK YMCA
YMCA Milton Keynes is the only social housing and homeless charity dedicated to young people in Milton Keynes. Since 1981, it has helped over 10,000 young people with accommodation, support and wellbeing services to help them belong, contribute and thrive. In early 2020, a new YMCA MK opened its doors. With 199 rooms, a café, nursery and various meeting spaces, our new campus will be a community hub for young people in Milton Keynes.

The incredible amount of £78,500 was split 3 ways between MK Dons SET, MK YMCA and CEO Sleepout UK. We’ll use our portion to continue our programme of events to tackle homelessness and poverty right across the UK, to advocate for responsible business through #LeadersWithPurpose, and to fund charities in need.
I couldn’t be more proud of all of the business leaders who participated and hugely grateful to all those that sponsored them.
I look forward to meeting new faces at the 2020 event, set for the second Monday in November (tbc)… You can register your interest here.
